This is one of those questions that sounds WAY more complicated than it is.

Ask around – Does it look like you? Is this the person who will show up for the audition?

I see headshots that are often over made up or so old that when you walk in for the audition the casting director does a double take. Not a good way to start your audition.
They need to see the person in the photo because that’s who they thought they were calling in.

Most importantly – Does the headshot get you work?

It’s been said that you should book up to 4 auditions for every 100 headshots you send to targeted casting calls. If you are booking less you likely need new headshots. They say it takes roughly 60 auditions to book 1 job. If you are booking less you may need new headshots. I would aim to improve these numbers with a GREAT headshot but if you are at least hitting these numbers you can hold off until you have the money to go to a great photographer (such as Paul Savage Photography J )

More later
Paul Savage
http://www.shotbyasavage.com/
http://www.savages4hire.com/
http://www.paulsavagephotography.com/
